worth travelling to cairo?

well me and my fam are going for 2 wks in Luxor in about 3 weeks and wondering if it worth travelling all the way to cairo to see the pyramids for a day trip? would be a shame to visit egypt and not even see them – but then again it will be about £400 each at least, and thats just for flights.
considering going on a train but its a long journey (although cheaper) so prob go for the plane.
will also have to find overnight accomodation @ 5* and then there’s the price of shopping – would work out to be a lot. kids are not too young (11, 13 + 16) but would they find the heat too unbearable, especially walking around in it so much?

Wow, that’s expensive. Where are you starting from? UK? It would probably work out cheaper to save Cairo for another visit – perhaps a long weekend.

Hubby and I did a Nile Cruise a few years back but didn’t Go To Cairo. At this time of year the heat in the city will be unbearable. Why not save the pyramids for another visit? Also (believe me) you will get a bit ‘antiquitied’ out – there are limits even for the keenest Egyptologist!
